Terrorism has taken stronghold in the society today and is rampant all over the world. From attacks on buildings to car bombings and suicide bombers, the frequency of terror attacks has increased considerably in the recent times. Most of these attacks kill and injure hundreds of innocent people, for no mistake of theirs. Although a lot of effort is being made to reduce the menace of terrorism, new terror groups are formed every other day with a resolve to ruin the peace of the world. 10. 15th May 1973 – Ma’alot Massacre
This is the worst terrorist attack in the history of Israel, when this huge massacre took place. Three Palestinian terrorists, who belonged to Palestine liberation, were the reason behind this huge event. They entered the state through Lebanon and took over 115 people as hostages. They killed 25 people and 66 people were injured.
9. 8th September 1974 – Attack of TWA Flight
This is the worst attack of terrorists in the air, in which the TWA flight 841 was attacked while flying from Athens to Rome. It suddenly crashed due to a bomb blast losing all its 79 passengers. Although this was considered to be a case of engine failure initially, it was later discovered that the attack was intentional and crash was caused by a bomb blast. This is credited to the terrorist organization of Abu Nidal.
8. 3rd August 1977 – Attacks at Manhattan
The Puerto Rican FALN group, which was a very popular nationalist group, attacked the city of Manhattan in August 1977. The building of defense department of the US as well as the Mobil Oil building came under attack. Although reports show one person to have been killed, this remains one of the worst terrorist attacks in the American history.
7. 24th March 2001 – Chechnya Border Attacks
Chechnya border of Russia was under the extreme influence of terrorists and faced series of attacks during March 2001. There were three bomb attacks through cars and is said to be the saddest day in Russia.
6. 18th September 2001 – Amerithrax
This took place shortly after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. In fact, it happened exactly after a week. The attack was aimed on the US Congress offices and the offices of the state government of New York. According to the FBI, this case is one of the most difficult cases in the history of America.
5. 26th February 1993 – Bombing of WTC or World Trade Center
World Trade Center had come under attacks much before the 9/11 massacre. The first attack took place on 26th February, 1993. However, the attacks could not bring down the twin towers. In essence, the attack failed. A group, which included Ahmad Ajaj, Mahmud Abouhalima, Nidal A. Ayyad, Ramzi Yousef, Abdul Rahman and Mohammad Salameh, planned this attack. It was also found that the attack was financed by Shaikh Mohammed.
4. 16th September 1920 – Bombing of the Wall Street
Thirty eight people lost their loves in the attack which took place in Wall Street of America. The nature of attack was reported to be one of the deadliest ones. The incident took place on 16th September 1920 at 12:00 noon. The financial district of the New York City was extremely disturbed and the terrorists behind this scene are yet to be traced.
3. 26th November 2008 – Attacks in Mumbai
This is the worst attack that occurred in the Indian history. One of the most renowned landmarks of Mumbai, Hotel Taj Mahal situated in front of the Gateway of India, came under attack. Military and police forces fought the terrorists for over sixty hours in the hotel. It took place on 26th November 2008. The attack was in face a series of shooting and bombing attacks. Ten such events took place all over Mumbai on the same day.
2. 19th April 1995 – Bombing of Oklahoma City
The Alfred P. Murrah Federal building of Oklahoma City was attacked on 19th April 1995. The ghastly incident has been marked as one of the deadliest attacks in the American Soil. Around 170 people were declared dead. The terrorist Timothy Mcveigh was responsible for the attack. He was imprisoned and executed on 11th July 2001.

The horrifying incident of the two hijacked planes crashing into the WTC on September 11, 2001, has marked itself as a huge event in the history, leaving behind enormous damages directly and indirectly to several countries around the world. The attacks were planned on the World Trade Center twin towers in New York and the military headquarters of America, the Pentagon. Reports show that 8,900 were injured and 2,993 were dead. Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist group Al Qaeda were the masterminds behind the attack. The 9/11 attacks have been heralded as the worst ever tragedy of the world.
