Top 10 Classics of Great Literature

A good book is a good companion. Here are some great classic books that you should read at least once in your life. The list may be extensive but top 10 according to my knowledge are below.

10. The Call of The Wild: If you want to know about the world from a dog’s perspective, this will give you a good know-how. Written by Jack London, it describes a dog’s journey to safety escaping the cruelty of human.

9. To Kill a Mockingbird: Everyone should read this in their high schools. It’s about love, care and the difficulties in growing up in the South. The book has won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. It has a gripping story and an easy read.

8. Cry, the Beloved Country: In this book Alan Paton writes about an honoured black man who is looking for his son and his sister through South Africa. While he is on his search he experiences his country in a very different way than it used to be, the changes sadden his soul. It is a journey to the culture and transformation of human nature.

7. Siddhartha: A fantastic story of a devoted person of Buddha and what he has to go through in his life. This novel will give you some everlasting memories that you cherish forever. It’s written by Hermann Hesse.

6. A Farewell To Arms: A great masterpiece by Ernest Hemingway where he writes about a driver falling in love with a nurse during World War I. The unique prose of Ernest will amaze you with every bit. You will learn a lot and enjoy the novel.

4. The Grapes of Wrath: A heart wrenching story by John Steinbeck is about a family who struggles to settle in the west. Despite of the poverty they stay together and overcome all the hurdles. It will give you a real touch of human life.

3. 1984 (Signet Classics): A book by George Orwell where he explains the political future by great powers. He has a strong hold on understanding and writing about politics. It is a must read for every teenager.

2.  The Red Badge of Courage: By Stephen Crane, is a short novel, recommended if you are a beginner in reading. The book is an anti-war book which covers the story of a soldier in the war field during the American Civil War.
